RAWALPINDI: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) declared a state of emergency on Sunday night after a heavy rain poured and flooded many low-lying areas of the city.
Mentioning that WASA’s Managing Director (MD) was also working in the field, the body’s spokesperson stated that 70 millimeters (mm) of rainfall had been recorded in Nullah Leh’s catchment areas.
He further added, “In order to drain stagnating water, WASA’s teams had been deployed in city’s low-lying areas.”
Committee Chowk underpass was reportedly flooded by the heavy rainfall, WASA’s spokesperson told the media that a team was sent to drain the water.
The water level at Gawalmandi and Katarian localities was at five and seven feet, respectively, he reported.
Moreover, rainwater has entered a children’s hospital near Peshawar’s Haji Camp and the members of Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar are draining the rainwater.
Heavy rains have also lashed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Swabi, and the flood warning has been issued by the district authorities.
Furthermore, the weather department has predicted heavy rains in Hazara, Mardan and Peshawar regions of KP and Gujranwala, Sahiwal and Lahore divisions of Punjab as well.
